Certification: Sold Out, Additional Class Added

Classroom and Hands-on Training

Last week’s Mold Repair Certification Course sold out to the maximum allowable number of students. Therefore, to meet ongoing interest, ToolingDocs has opened registration for another two-day, Level 1 training session that will be held on November 3 – 4, 2009.

“This will most likely conclude Level 1 classes for 2009,” Johnson adds.  “We encourage those who are interested to sign up early because class size is limited due to the hands-on nature of the curriculum, and past classes have sold out fairly quickly.” says Steve Johnson, Operations Manager and Instructor at ToolingDocs.

“The curriculum has been so well received and successful, and it’s because companies are seeing more and more the critical role proper mold maintenance plays, not only in optimizing mold performance but also for cutting costs,” Johnson adds.

Ideal for those who have at least one year of mold maintenance experience, ToolingDocs’ Level 1 Certification Program features hands-on bench work and classroom training.  Attendees will learn these valuable skills:

Eight Stages of Systemized Mold Maintenance

 Mold Disassembly Practices and Techniques

How to Develop and Implement an Effective Mold Maintenance Plan

Basic mold terminology, shop and bench setup considerations, mold tooling component inspection, and more.

Systematic Identification of Savings

An MCA results in a scorecard that identifies opportunities to develop.

ToolingDocs continues to help molding companies make critical headway in their quests to cut costs and increase efficiency through implementation of its exclusive, systema-tic Maintenance Capability Assessment (MCA).

The purpose of an MCA is to accurately determine a company’s ability to main-tain their molds to a high degree of production readiness and perform-ance, and with what degree of proficiency. Everything related to mold maintenance is examined, from initial mold start up in the press through the production run and finally also at the point when it is pulled and racked or benched.

A tooling manager at an OEM told ToolingDocs about the results of a recently performed MCA.

“The MCA answers many critical questions,” he said.  “What does it actually cost to run a mold?  What are the extra costs we weren’t seeing before from labor, from the toolroom, spare tooling or the efficiencies of the mold?  Tying it all together to build a comprehensive report tells us what our worst offenders are and where we need to focus in order to improve that particular mold or process.  It tells us where we’re losing profits or where we can further gain profits.

“With our costliest mold, for example, which has eight cavities and produces about 4.5 million parts per year, we realized a savings of one half cent per part after implementing the steps recommended in the MCA,” he continued.  “That half cent was buried in both outside purchased tooling and internal labor costs.  When you consider that was one tool out of 300 active molds; you can do the math and see that there’s a lot of money to be saved plant-wide.”
