Removing Silicone From Regrind
IMM 06/01

We are planning to use a percentage of
reground 30 percent glass-filled nylon 6 for a molded automotive
application. There is a potential that the regrind may contain
silicone gaskets or seals if they are not removed from the
assembled component prior to regrinding. What practical techniques
exist for removing the reground silicone particles from the nylon?
We tried a nozzle tip filter but it lasts only a few weeks before
being eroded by the nylon

Try a unit similar to a metal separator that
detects density. This works for a variety of foreign compounds. -
