Current Online Topic: STICKING LCP

IMM 10/00

We mold a glass-filled LCP into an electronic connector-type part that has numerous.011-inch-thick wall sections Sometimes one or more of these walls breaks off and sticks in the mold. The manufacturer cannot recommend any chemical solvent for LCP, nor any practical, reasonably quick way to remove the plastic from the mold. Can anyone help?

You might try coating the mold with Teflon or another type of releasing agent. We have used zinc stearate powder on a few molds. Results depend on the conductivity of the insert or metals that are placed in the mold and being molded around. Since you are using a glass-filled material, you will need a durable agent that will adhere to the surface and resists the glass wear. There are a few companies that coat molds; try Armoloy or DiamondBlack. They should be able to assist you.
